This Week In Tales: August 8, 2010

This Week InGraces f by Shawn

Today has been a crazy week, hasn't it? Namco Bandai threw us a curve ball with the surprise announcement of Tales of Graces on the PS3, confirmation of the third game in the Radiant Mythology series and our first look at the next Tales title, exclusive for the PS3. And to make things more interesting, Namco Bandai made the news not once, not twice, but three different times.

After the announcement of Tales of Graces f in Japan, a few fans posted on Namco Games's Facebook wall (this is the only Facebook presence Namco Bandai has). Namco Bandai posted a response, which simply stated they weren't currently localizing the game. This elicited a huge response from the fans at large, which posted hundreds upon hundreds of posts on their wall.

Namco Bandai had put up a second response, which used the phrase "series" instead of "Tales of Graces", which was taken down shortly after it was posted, creating even more fan posts. The company put up a third statement a few days ago which detailed the issues with localizing Tales games, but it still gave no word of any localizations.

The news started off with a scan, which showed off a new costume for Sophie and announced that the port of the Wii version would include upscaled HD graphics. We also heard about a new story being added post-game, but until Namco Bandai held their official press conference we didn't know that it would be roughly 3/4 the length of the original story.

Other highlights was the announcement of new Artes, Mystic Artes, and hints at Richard being playable post-game.

While this is the third iteration of the game, Namco Bandai and developer Alfa System don't seem to be resting on their laurels. The game is set to include 30 new character, amounting to a total of 80, which we later learned would have only 76 of the characters actually being playable.

The game will support data installs, like many recent PSP titles, but the most important change is a brand-new camera, which features a birds-eye view which is much like Tales of Legendia and Tales of Vesperia's dungeon camera.

Unlike the previous "Next Tales of" announcements from Namco Bandai, we don't know much about this title. The company has revealed that the game is still in its very early phases, with no theme song, genre name or main character designer being chosen.

The art style is said to contrast light and darkness, using a different style than what's found in Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Graces, which Tales of producer Hideo Baba was "very impressed" by. Namco Bandai currently has a countdown website setup, which should end around December 15, 2010.
