Tales of VS: Item Usage Like Super Smash Bros.

Tales of VS: Item Usage Like Super Smash Bros.

Two more system videos have been released showing off how to use items and how the single player mode works in Tales of VS, which will be coming to the PlayStation Portable this August in Japan. The game will pit the various Tales of characters in a fighting free-for-all, using their well-known Artes, locations from the different games, and even items from the various games, as well as each character's unique Mystic Arte.

Although we knew the game would be including items from the first few videos that were release, how they were used and how they were obtained had yet to be revealed. In Tales of VS., it seems from the video that they will be strewn across the field (think Super Smash Bros. here), available for the players to pick up. But unlike Super Smash Bros., you can save the item until when you need it, using the Triangle button. This can be used at any time --- for example, Kyle Dunamis (Tales of Destiny 2) uses an Apple Gel when he backs away from Eugene Gallardo (Tales of Rebirth). Offensive weapons are also included, as can been seen when Senel Coolidge (Tales of Legendia) picks up what seems to be a sword and uses it to attack three characters at once.

The other video shows off Yggdrasill Battle, otherwise known as the single-player mode. You control your onscreen character (Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia in this video) and move the cursor around the map and hover over one of the event indicator icons, pressing Circle to start the event (it is unknown if you can use Circle to go to non-event areas). These events seem to start with a short skit, then go into a battle. After the battle you are awarded Gald and GP. Gald can be used for to buy equipment, and GP is used to augment your character's abilities.
