New Tales of Xillia Game Features And Idolmaster Costumes Revealed

XilliaPS3 by Shawn

Almost a month after the last batch of scans for Tales of Xillia, new leaked scans revealing new game features and costumes for the upcoming game have surfaced as part of a four-page spread in the latest issue of Famitsu.

New Tales of Xillia Game Features And Idolmaster Costumes Revealed (4) Tales of Xillia will utilize the contrast between light and shadow, which will lead to the game having a different art style direction than Vesperia's anime-style graphics or Graces's watercolor-style graphics (it could be more of a hand-painted or oil painting-like feel if the concept artwork is any indication). Baba stated that when he saw some of the concept artwork images running on actual hardware he was very impressed.

The main feature of the scans is a new grid-based ability system. Each character appears to have their own grid which allows them to learn new Artes and upgrade their attributes, which is done by using points which are gained in battle. Much like Final Fantasy X's Sphere Grid, players can determine how a character develops, so one could have a magician be more attuned to attacking if they so wish.

The exact mechanics of the system aren't exactly clear as of yet due to the lack of full scans, however, but we do know that the nodes have the following properties:

Attack: Affects physical attack strength.
Defense: Affects physical defense.
Magic Attack: Affects Arte attack strength.
Magic Defense: Affects Arte defense.
Agility: Affects movement speed in battle.
Dexterity: Affects ability to land critical hits and stun enemies in battle.

As for the new costumes, the girls will have DLC costumes based on characters from iDOLM@STER 2. It's currently unknown how much they will retail for and when they will be released, however.

Tales of Xillia will be released on September 8 in Japan exclusively on the PS3. No word has been given on a North American or European release.

UPDATE (7/6): The full version of the scan has been added and the partial images have been removed.
