New Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon Details Revealed
Thanks to some partial Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X scans, more information about the upgrades to the Tales of Phantasia battle system have been revealed. Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X is a remake of the original game which appeared on the Game Boy Color back in 2000 in Japan. The Tales of Phantasia part of the game is an improved version of Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition, which was released on the PSP back in 2006 in Japan, with a budget re-release a year later.
The scan has some information we already knew about, but it also clarifies and reveals some other details that weren't discernible in the recent trailer. As stated before, this version of Phantasia removes the spell pausing, allowing multiple character to use Artes at the same time. Attacks can be linked together up to three times, which matches the system the post-Symphonia titles have used. Backstepping is also implemented using the Guard button and pressing the control pad/stick in the opposite direction of the enemy. As we saw earlier, each character has their own shortcut, which can be pressed to link attacks while the player's character is attacking. The scan also makes note that the pacing of battles is increased to offset the changes that were made.
The official website for the game was also updated, although the updates are relatively minor, only consisting of a new blog post, talking about the graphical and combat aspects of the game, and the Tales of Phantasia Characters section.
