More Tales of Phantasia Remake Battle Overhaul Details
Dengeki has just revealed new information about the Tales of Phantasia remake included in Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X which clarifies some of the information we had learned earlier.
Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X is a remake of the original game which appeared on the Game Boy Color back in 2000 in Japan. The Tales of Phantasia part of the game is an improved version of Tales of Phantasia: Full Voice Edition, which was released on the PSP back in 2006 in Japan, with a budget re-release a year later.
While we already knew backstepping was implemented, by tapping again when one is next to the enemy, it will allow the character to slip behind the enemy, similar to recent Tales of games. The new shortcuts, each of which is assigned to a face button during battles, are now enabled by holding the R button then any of the face buttons. For fans of Manual mode, the remake also includes the ability to turn that on using a toggle at the beginning of the game, instead of requiring the Technical Ring to always be equipped, wasting an accessory slot.
Namco Bandai has yet to reveal a concrete release date for the game. It's likely that the official release date will be revealed this Summer during Tales of Festival 2010.
