Famitsu Scores Tales of the Abyss 3DS
With little over a week left before the Tales of the Abyss 3DS's release date in Japan, the official Famitsu score for the game has been released, which has fared differently from its original PS2 score.
Tales of the Abyss was originally released on the PS2 on December 15, 2005 and was localized in North America on October 10, 2006. The game was regarded as an improvement over Tales of Symphonia, extending that game's multi-line battle system into a battle system which allows players to freely move about the field in battle.
Famitsu's score for the game is 8/8/7/8, which amounts to a 31/40, five points lower than the 36/40 score the original PS2 of the game received. Only the score has leaked as of now on the Japanese gaming blogs, so its not clear if there is any technical issues with the port or if Famitsu is rating it lower because not many changes were made to the 3DS version of the game.
Tales of the Abyss 3DS will be released next week on June 30 in Japan, with a TBA 2011 release scheduled for North America and Europe. Tales of the Abyss 3DS is one of the Namco Bandai games featured at this year's Japan Expo, so more information about the Western release schedule should come out of that event next week.
UPDATE (6/22): The majors complaints lowering the score was the lack of any major updates outside of the previously NA-only content and some issues reading the smaller fonts due to the 3DS's smaller screens. However, they did like the faster loading times and the ease of use with the touch screen commands.
