Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave First Week Sales Revealed

PSP by Shawn

It's been a week since Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave was released in Japan, which means we have new first week sales figure data.

Unlike the other Tales escort titles on the PSP, this game plays similarly to the Musou/Dynasty Warriors franchise with the player controlling one character with a partner character being controlled by the game's AI. Characters from the mothership titles (and surprisingly enough Tales of the Tempest) will be included.

According to the latest Media Create sales figure data, Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave sold 85,309 copies. These figures include both the limited edition and regular versions of the game. These figures are quite small for a spin-off title, as Tales of VS. sold a little less than double in its own first week.

Tales of Xillia Sells Over 500,000+ Copies In Its First Week

XilliaPS3 by Shawn

Tales of Xillia has been on sale for almost a week now since it's September 8th release, which means one thing: sales figures have been released. And Namco Bandai should be pleased --- the game sold over 500k in sales in its first week alone.

Tales of Xillia will utilize the contrast between light and shadow, which will lead to the game having a different art style direction than Vesperia's anime-style graphics or Graces's watercolor-style graphics (it could be more of a hand-painted or oil painting-like feel if the concept artwork is any indication). Baba stated that when he saw some of the concept artwork images running on actual hardware he was very impressed.

Tales of Xillia Expected To Outpace Prior Tales Games

XilliaPS3 by Shawn

It's obvious that Namco Bandai has lofty goals set for their latest entry in the Tales series, Tales of Xillia, with it being the first title built solely for the PS3 in Japan. We've finally gotten an idea of just what their sales expectations are now thanks to some marketing documents that have been leaked on a Japanese gaming blog.

Tales of the Abyss 3DS Takes Top Place In First Week Sales

Abyss (3DS)3DS by Shawn

It's been a week since Tales of the Abyss has been released in Japan, which means we have the first week sales figures for the game in hand thanks to 4Gamer.net. And needless to say, Namco Bandai is likely pretty pleased at the results given the game's delay.

Tales of the Abyss was originally released on the PS2 on December 15, 2005 and was localized in North America on October 10, 2006. The game was regarded as an improvement over Tales of Symphonia, extending that game's multi-line battle system into a battle system which allows players to freely move about the field in battle.

TotW: Radiant Mythology 3 At The Top Of This Week's Charts

Radiant Mythology 3PSP by Shawn

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3 has been out for a week, and with that means that the first week sales figures have been released. And not surprisingly, it turns out the game did quite well, indeed.

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3 is the third game in the Radiant Mythology series, which brings together Tales characters from many of the games in the long-running series. The third entry features 30 more characters for a total of 80 (with 76 of them being playable), an enhanced character creation tool, a data install option and a brand new aerial-view camera angle.

The game took the first place spot this week, selling 222,068 copies, with Samurai Warriors 3Z taking the second place spot at 208,548 copies. The third outing in the series sold better than the second game, which sold 212,765 copies, but just barely. The Radiant Mythology titles seem to drop off in sales after the first few weeks, so it should be interesting to see how the sales continue in the following weeks.

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3 was released on the PSP on February 10, 2011 in Japan. No word on an North American or European release.

Tales of Graces f Surpasses Wii First Week Sales

Graces fPS3 by Shawn

It's been just over a week since Tales of Graces f was released in Japan, and the first week sales figures for the game have been revealed, and it's safe to say the game is selling quite well for being a port.

Tales of Graces f (the f stands for "future") has an extra post-game story which takes place after the game's original ending. Without spoiling anything, there seems to be an increase in the monster population, which increases the amount of monster attacks around the world. This causes Asbel and his group to set off once again to determine the cause behind the recent disturbance.

According to Enterbrain, a company which tracks Japanese sales figures, Tales of Graces f sold 215,187 units in its first week, surpassing the near-150,000 units the Wii version of the game sold in the same timeframe. And with the announcement of the upcoming DLC for the game, the revenue gained from the game should be quite impressive, indeed.

Tales of Graces f was December 2 in Japan on the PS3. No release date for either the Wii or PS3 version in North America or Europe.

100K First Week Sales For Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X

PSP by Shawn

With Tales of Graces's sub-par sales in Japan, many have been wondering just how well Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X, the first Tales release since Graces, would do in retail. According to recent sales figures, it looks like the game is doing pretty well, especially for a PSP title.

According to 4Gamer.net's sales figures, the game has sold 108,356 copies, just under Tales of Vesperia's ~140K PS3 port first week sales and above the Xbox 360's ~100K first week sales. Considering this is a PSP title, it's quite impressive indeed.

Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon X was released on August 5, 2010 in Japan. No word on an North American or European release.

Tales Studio's Debt: What It Means For The Series

MusingsPS3X360WiiPSPDS by Shawn

For those who have been following the Tales news as of late, you likely already know that Namco Tales Studio is in severe debt, barely covering their short-term debts and with long term debts almost four times their current reserves. With all this uncertainty, one question naturally comes to mind --- how will this affect the series from here on out?

According to their balance sheets, Namco Tales Studio's current assets plus their fixed assets are around 6.6 million, with their current liabilities just barely below that amount at 6.5 million Yen. While this might not sound all that bad considering the current lackluster state of RPGs in this next-gen era, the long-term liabilities and the shareholder stakes in the company are around 22-23 million --- almost 400% of what Namco Tales Studio could pay. In effect, if the shareholders were to all cash out at this moment, it would effectively "kill" the developer four times over. While this kind of debt can be expected from a start-up company, it is quite shocking for a long-running company to amass this amount of debt.

It is important to note that after 2006 Namco Bandai fully owns the studio after buying the remaining shares from Telnet Japan, so some of these debts could have been passed on from Namco Bandai to hide some of their own debt, which was widely reported when the publisher announced they would be restructuring the company as well as decreasing its workforce.

More analysis after the jump.
