Last year Funimation revealed that they picked up the North American rights to Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike. The company has now revealed the official dub cast list for the game as well as the first dubbed teaser trailer for the movie.
Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike is a prequel to the game, focusing on Yuri and Flynn's past when they were in the Imperial Knights. Estelle, Raven, and Rita also have cameos, along with some other characters created specifically for the movie.
Those who followed Tales of Xillia over the last year leading up to its release know that the game has some incredible animated cutscenes thanks to ufotable. According to a retail shop leak via 7-Eleven in Japan it appears Namco Bandai is taking that to the next level with, you guessed it, an anime adaptation.
This leak focuses around the January 2012 edition of the Japan-only Viva Tales of Magazine that's been running over there for a while now. The description for the page mentions the phrase "Tales of Xillia: The Animation" but nothing else.
Of course, Namco Bandai has yet to official announce anything or respond to this leak so it's still a rumor, but this was the same website that broke the news about Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker so it may have some weight behind it compared to other "leaks" in the past.
As always, if we learn any more information we'll be sure to let you know.
UPDATE (11/25): Appears that the leak was referring to the Tales of Symphonia animation, not Xillia.
Last year, news broke of a German distributor picking up the rights for Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike, but with no word on a possible North American release. Today that changes, as Funimation has just announced they have obtain the rights to the film.
Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike is a prequel to the game, focusing on Yuri and Flynn's past when they were in the Imperial Knights. Estelle, Raven, and Rita also have cameos, along with some other characters created specifically for the movie.
This news comes via Funimation spokesperson Jackie Smith, which announced the news alongside gaining additional rights to Fractale and Freezing. It's not currently known if they will be releasing the movie sub-only like Bandai Entertainment's release of the Tales of the Abyss anime or if they will be dubbing the movie in English.
It's been a while since we've heard news about the United World episode of Tales of Symphonia: The Animation, which takes place after the events of the game. Up until now we've only seen and heard tidbits about the game, without much else. That changes now, as Animate.tv has released a new trailer.
According to the trailer, it will consist of two volumes (instead of the four that the previous two arcs were comprised of) and will be released in late 2011.
